It is not officially confirmed, but this hack seems to have been carried out by a ransomware group. According to foreign media, a ransomware group claimed that they had hacked the server before the official announcement of Banda's Namco. They are known to have asked for a ransom for the current data.

This is not the first time to hack a large game distributor. In November 2022, Japan's large game company Capcom suffered great damage due to the leak of 1TB of internal data.
